Gladfield produces New Zealand malt from Canterbury-grown grain, with options for building the base of a beer or adjusting its colour, body and flavour. The range includes dependable base malts alongside crystal, roasted, wheat and rye specialties.
Building your Gladfield grain bill
- Use Gladfield Ale Malt or American Ale Malt as a base where they suit your recipe.
- Add Biscuit Malt when a measured amount of toasted malt character is required.
- Choose between Light Crystal Malt and Dark Crystal Malt according to the colour and flavour your recipe needs.
- For darker beers, carefully measured roasted malts such as Dark Chocolate Malt can add colour and roasted character.
Base malt usually forms most of the grain bill, while stronger specialty malts are commonly used in smaller proportions. Follow a proven recipe until you are familiar with what each malt contributes.
