Distilling consumables cover the ingredients and maintenance products used repeatedly when preparing, clearing and distilling a wash. Check the recipe and equipment instructions first, as a complete fermentation pack may already include yeast, carbon or clearing agents.
Common distilling consumables
- Fermentable sugar: Use the sugar type and quantity specified by the yeast or wash recipe. Options include Still Spirits Turbo Sugar and Dextrose.
- Carbon and clearing: Products such as Still Spirits Turbo Carbon are used during fermentation, while Still Spirits Turbo Clear helps remove suspended yeast and solids before distilling.
- Boil control: Top Shelf Distilling Conditioner helps control foaming, while Ceramic Boil Enhancers support a smoother boil.
- Cleaning and sanitising: Clean visible residue with Mangrove Jack’s Cold Water Cleaner, then sanitise suitable equipment with Mangrove Jack’s No Rinse Sanitiser as directed.
Cleaning and sanitising are separate steps: sanitiser works best on equipment that has already been cleaned. Measure all additives carefully and avoid duplicating carbon, clear or nutrients already supplied in a combined yeast or wash pack.
