What to use with this kit
The supplier’s preferred pairing is 1.7kg Black Rock Amber unhopped malt extract. If that is unavailable, Mangrove Jack’s Amber Liquid Malt Extract is a compatible 1.5kg alternative, although the slightly smaller quantity may reduce the final strength. Another Black Rock Brown Ale can may be used for a more intense malt and bitterness profile.
Other Black Rock dark beer styles
- Black Rock Crafted Oatmeal Stout – a rich, silky two-can oatmeal-stout option.
- Black Rock Stout – a classic roasted stout with balanced bitterness.
- Black Rock Porter – an English-style porter with coffee, cocoa and caramel malt character.
Brown ale, porter and stout recipes use different malt additions, bitterness and can combinations. Confirm whether the selected kit calls for sugar, unhopped malt or a second can before brewing.
