Beer enhancers and malt extracts replace or supplement plain brewing sugar to adjust body, malt flavour, colour, head retention and the finished character of a kit beer. The best choice depends on the beer style and the quantity recommended by the kit instructions.

Choosing an enhancer or extract

• General body and mouthfeel: BrewMaster Brew Body is designed for recipes where extra body is wanted without choosing a full specialty malt bill.
• Higher malt content: A product such as Brewmaster Brewblend 50 High Malt Sugar combines fermentables with a greater malt contribution than plain dextrose.
• Darker beer styles: BrewMaster Malt Enhancer Dark is suited to compatible dark ale, porter or stout recipes.
• Adjustable malt extract: Compare lighter options such as Brick Road Extra Light DME with darker extracts such as Black Rock Unhopped Dark.

Use the amount specified by the recipe and check whether the extract is hopped or unhopped. Changing the fermentable type can affect alcohol level, sweetness, body and balance, so make one considered change at a time when adapting a familiar kit.
