This three-scale home brew hydrometer measures liquid density so you can check starting gravity, follow fermentation progress and estimate alcohol production when used with suitable readings and calculations.
How to use it
- Sanitise the hydrometer and a suitable sample jar.
- Fill the jar with enough liquid for the hydrometer to float freely.
- Spin gently to release clinging bubbles, then read at the liquid level.
- Compare stable readings taken on separate days before deciding fermentation is complete.
Helpful addition
A Hydrometer Test Jar keeps the instrument clear of the bottom and sides while using a smaller sample than a full fermenter.

Other gravity-measuring options
For a colour-banded scale, compare the Easy Read Hydrometer. For hot-side wort checks using only a few drops, see the 0–32% Brix Refractometer.
A refractometer requires correction after fermentation begins, while either hydrometer must float freely in a suitable sample jar. Confirm final gravity with stable, correctly interpreted readings.
