Hops

Extra hops let kit brewers adjust bitterness, flavour and aroma beyond what is already provided in the base beer kit. Choose the variety for the beer style and intended use, then follow a suitable addition method and quantity rather than adding the full pack automatically.

Choosing hops for a beer kit

• New Zealand varieties: Browse NZ hops for locally grown citrus, tropical, floral, herbal and other distinctive profiles.
• International varieties: Explore imported hops for classic American, European, Australian and UK beer styles.
• Bitterness versus aroma: Early hot-side additions generally contribute more bitterness, while later or dry-hop additions retain more aroma. Follow the selected recipe for timing.
• Keeping additions contained: A reusable or disposable muslin hops bag can help contain hop material where the brewing method calls for one.

Check whether your beer kit or recipe pack already includes hops. Store opened hops carefully and use a proven recipe when combining varieties, as more hops do not automatically produce a better-balanced beer.
